SeaLions Seek Early Clinch Of Playoff Spot

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego SeaLions WFC (5-0-0) hope to continue their perfect start to the season when they host FC Strikers-South Coast (1-2-2) at home tomorrow night, before travelling to FC Pacific on Sunday in a WPSL PacSouth Division “top-2” battle. And if the SeaLions win both matches this weekend, they will clinch at least a tie for first place in the WPSL PacSouth Division.

Tomorrow’s game his will be a rematch of Week One when the two teams battled evenly for 91 minutes. It took a dramatic 92nd minute goal by forward Angelina Hix (MiraCosta) to send San Diego out of Huntington Beach with a victory.

"That first game prepared us for the rest of the season," said Hix. "We expect nothing less from them this time.” Indeed, if Strikers lose, they will be eliminated from title contention.

San Diego is coming off a homestand sweep last weekend, in which they defeated Phoenix Del Sol (1-4-1) and FC Tucson Women (1-3-3) by a combined 8-1 thus sweeping the season series from the Arizona teams. Strikers, on the other hand, are coming off a 3-0 road loss at the hands of FC Pacific (2-1-2) on June 14th.

"Our team is clicking very well at the right point of the season," said midfielder Rosie Tantillo-Colon (USC). "It’s crunch time, because a loss now can eliminate a team from playoff contention.” Case in point – two wins for the SeaLions will give them 21 points, out of reach for all but one of the other teams in PacSouth.

Saturday's match against Strikers FC-South Coast kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Cathedral Catholic High School (5555 Del Mar Heights Rd. San Diego, CA 92130). Sunday's match against FC Pacific starts at 1:00 p.m. with the match taking place at Troy High School located at 2200 East Dorothy Lane in Fullerton, CA.
