Established in 1988, San Diego WFC is one of the oldest female soccer clubs in the United States. In 2000 the SeaLions, known then as SD Auto Trader, won the WPSL Championship. In 1999 they won the US National Cup, and three years later they became the developmental squad for the WUSA's San Diego Spirit. No other adult soccer club in the USA boasts such a continuous tradition of excellence, passion and love for the game. The SeaLions' roster consists of former WUSA professionals, veterans of the top college programs in the country, and local high school prospects.

1988 Several players from UCSD and SDSU formed a team called the "Has-Beens" and entered the local Peninsula Soccer League. Largely uncoached (and some would say uncoachable) the Has-Beens won the Peninsula championship.

1990 Sponsored by the San Diego Surf Soccer Club, the team entered several tournaments in addition to Peninsula League play.

1996 The team was named Co-Champions of the prestigious Las Vegas Silver Mug tournament with long-time rival and fellow WPSL Charter-member Sacramento Storm. This rivalry continues today!

1997 Impressed by the team's success, Auto Trader Publications became the team's first commercial sponsor. "Auto Trader Women's Select" was invited to tour Europe to face clubs in Germany, Hungary, and Italy. The team went 4-0

1998 The team held open tryouts and became founding members of the new U.S. Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), finishing second

1999 SeaLions traveled to Mexico City to play two games against the Mexican Women's National Team, helping it prepare for the 1999 Women's World Cup. They won the Las Vegas Silver Mug Tournament with an 8-0 record, allowing only 1 goal. After beating Las Virgines and the So Cal Blues for the California State Cup title, they then traveled to St. Louis where they pounded New Jersey's Patrick Real Wykoff 14-0 to win the U.S. National Cup. Capped-off the year by finishing 2nd in the WPSL.

2000 After changing its name to "San Diego WFC," the team won the Arizona Copper Cup Championship and its first WPSL Championship!

2001 San Diego WFC becomes a sponsored team of the WUSA's San Diego Spirit. Won the Las Vegas Silver Mug title again and took second place in the WPSL despite losing several players to the Spirit.

2002 San Diego WFC becomes the SD Spirit's "developmental squad," and scrimmages the U.S. Under-16, Under-19, and Under-21 Women's National Teams.

2004 San Diego WFC signs several former WUSA stars including Mandy Clemens (San Jose CyberRays), Melissa Moore (Philadelphia Charge), Ronnie Fair (S.D. Spirit), Sherice Anders (Boston Breakers) and Allie Sullivan (S.D. Spirit), and becomes a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization with a broader mission: to promote soccer coaching and playing opportunities for females of all ages.

2006 Led by US National Team member Jen Lalor-Neilsen, Chinese National Team captain Ouying Zhang, and Irish National Team member Sarah Halpenny, the SeaLions advanced to the WPSL's first Final Four Tournament, held in Salt Lake City, UT.

2008 WPSL grows to 51 teams nationwide, and joins with the USL's W-League to help promote and support Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) (womensprosoccer.com), set to launch in Spring 2009. Many of the players in both the WPSL and W-League will earn spots on WPS teams and will continue to play the highest level of women's soccer in the world!

2009 Introduced "Sammie the SeaLion". Like any sea lion, Sammie's flipper-flopping mystique and crazy sense of humor contribute high-powered enthusiasm to the San Diego SeaLions. Also, partnering with Kick for Hope (www.kickforhope.org), a charity soccer tournament whose purpose is to raise funds to aid projects in Africa. Kick for Hope was started by local San Diego soccer mom, Kristen Chandler.

2010 Jen Lalor-Neilsen returned to the SeaLions once again, but as Head Coach. Finished the season in a 3-way tied for First Place in the Pacific South Region. Missing out of the Regional Playoffs on goal diffenential.
